What is AEO? SEO vs. ChatGPT

SEO is so 2024. In 2025, search engine optimization efforts have to become search everywhere optimizations—or, more specifically, AEO.

AEO is Answer Engine Optimization, crafting content to attract the attention of “answer engines,” like ChatGPT. With more than 200 million users on that platform alone, it’s an audience that your digital marketing can’t ignore. 

And yes, people are searching for treatment on ChatGPT. We’ve seen multiple clients getting dozens of visitors each month from AI platforms. At least one client has already gotten an admission that started with a ChatGPT search.

How can you rank on answer engines?

 It’s a slightly different strategy than old-school, EEAT-focused SEO. While EEAT still plays a role in answer engines, the overall picture is a lot more complex. 

Because answer engines respond to much more complex queries than the traditional Google search, they are looking for content that is equally comprehensive and layered—not just a dry keyword checklist. 

In addition, answer engines prioritize natural language, or a conversational tone. They are trying to deliver answers that sound like human speech, so they want to draw upon sources that already sound like that, too. 

In short, the era of 800-word blog posts that sound like a high school book report is over.
